Martial Arts Research and Studies (M.A.R.S., alle rechten voorbehouden) is een project dat zich richt op algemeen en specifiek onderzoek binnen krijgskunsten, meer bepaald letselvorming, preventie, prestatie en techniek, het produceren en publiceren van peer-reviewed academisch onderzoek binnen het brede veld van vechtsporten, waaronder Historische Europese Vechtsporten.
Het project bestrijkt een breed scala aan onderwerpen, waaronder letselprofielen, strategieën voor het voorkomen van letsels, onderzoeksstudies (observatief, interventioneel, sportgeneeskunde, klinische proeven, enz.), casestudies, opiniestukken, overzichtsartikelen, evenals fundamentele en geavanceerde concepten, technieken en technische aspecten van vechtsporten.
Alle onderzoeksartikelen worden in een academische stijl gepubliceerd. Sommige artikelen worden uitgebracht onder de naam M.A.R.S., terwijl andere kunnen verschijnen in externe peer-reviewed academische tijdschriften. Artikelen die door M.A.R.S. worden gepubliceerd, zijn altijd open access, zodat ze voor alle lezers toegankelijk zijn. Samenwerkende tijdschriften worden ook geselecteerd op basis van hun toewijding aan open access.
Artikels in eigen publicaties kunnen geüpdatet worden. De update datum zal dan telkens vermeld worden.

Martial Arts Research and Studies (M.A.R.S., all rights reserved) is a project focused on both general and specific research within martial arts, particularly injury development, prevention, performance, and technique. It also includes the production and publication of peer-reviewed academic research within the broad field of combat sports, including Historical European Martial Arts.
The project covers a wide range of topics, including injury profiles, injury prevention strategies, research studies (observational, interventional, sports medicine, clinical trials, etc.), case studies, opinion pieces, review articles, as well as fundamental and advanced concepts, techniques, and technical aspects of martial arts.
All research articles are published in an academic style. Some articles are released under the M.A.R.S. name, while others may appear in external peer-reviewed academic journals. Articles published by M.A.R.S. are always open access, ensuring they are accessible to all readers. Partner journals are also selected based on their commitment to open access.
Articles in proprietary publications may be updated. The update date will always be noted in such cases.

Special Issues are dedicated to a specific topic, explored from different perspectives. Funding and payment: Authors will receive no payment or funding for submitting their work.
Authors rights: The author's rights after publication belong to the author, but the publication license is for Martial Arts Research and Studies.
Article types:
1. AI Use Policy
M.A.R.S. recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) tools may assist in research and manuscript preparation. However:
AI tools may be used for language editing, formatting, or technical assistance.
AI tools must notbe listed as authors.
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all content.
Any substantial use of AI in drafting, analysis, or image generation must be transparently disclosed in the manuscript (e.g., in the Methods or Acknowledgments section).
AI tools must not be used to fabricate data, references, or research findings.
Failure to disclose significant AI usage may result in rejection or retraction.
2. General Ethics Policy
M.A.R.S. is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, transparency, and responsible research conduct.
All submissions must:
Be original scholarly work.
Respect ethical research standards.
Avoid fabrication, falsification, or misrepresentation.
Comply with applicable institutional and legal regulations.
The editorial board reserves the right to investigate suspected ethical violations and to take appropriate action, including rejection, correction, or retraction.
3. Plagiarism Policy
Plagiarism in any form is strictly prohibited.
This includes:
Direct copying without citation.
Paraphrasing without proper attribution.
Self-plagiarism (duplicate or redundant publication).
Undisclosed reuse of substantial portions of previous work.
Use of AI-generated content presented as original research.
All manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism detection tools.
If plagiarism is detected:
Minor cases may require revision.
Major cases will result in rejection.
Published articles may be retracted if plagiarism is discovered post-publication.
4. Conflict of Interest Policy
Authors must disclose any financial, professional, or personal relationships that could influence their research.
Conflicts may include:
Financial funding or sponsorship
Employment or consultancy
Personal relationships
Academic competition
Institutional affiliations
A Conflict of Interest statement must be included in every manuscript.
If no conflicts exist, authors must explicitly state:
“The authors declare no conflict of interest.”
Reviewers and editors must also declare conflicts and recuse themselves when appropriate.
5. Research Integrity Policy
M.A.R.S. adheres to principles of research integrity as outlined by international academic standards.
The following are strictly prohibited:
Fabrication of data
Falsification or manipulation of results
Selective reporting
Image manipulation that alters interpretation
Data suppression
Authors must retain raw data where applicable and be prepared to provide it upon reasonable request.
Any suspicion of research misconduct will be formally investigated.
6. Authorship Criteria
Authorship must reflect substantial intellectual contribution.
To qualify as an author, individuals must have contributed significantly to:
Study conception or design
Data acquisition, analysis, or interpretation
Drafting or critical revision of the manuscript
Final approval of the version to be published
All authors share collective responsibility for the integrity of the work.
The following are not sufficient for authorship:
Funding acquisition alone
General supervision
Technical assistance
Language editing only
Gift, honorary, or ghost authorship is prohibited.
7. Human Subjects and Informed Consent
Research involving human participants must comply with recognized ethical standards (e.g., principles consistent with the Declaration of Helsinki).
Authors must:
Confirm ethical approval by an appropriate institutional review board or ethics committee where required.
Confirm that informed consent was obtained from participants.

Failure to comply may result in rejection or retraction.
M.A.R.S. publishes in external journals or in own name.
All rights of all manuscripts published in external journals remain to that specific journal.
Nothing in the work of M.A.R.S. can be used or copied without the explicit written consent of the author(s) and editor.
Open access:
All articles in own publishing are open access. Collaborating journals are selected on open access as well.
